Buddharakkhita Mahathera was a Buddhist monk ordained in 1948 and a prolific writer who established the Maha Bodhi Society of Bangalore. He established schools, hostels, hospitals and an artificial limb centre for the society, wrote 150 books and published two periodicals. He died at the Maha Bodhi Society on 23 September 2013, at the age of 91.
